Back!

Journal Entry: Thu Jul 17, 2008, 3:20 PM
Rescued my laptop and managed to arrange my daily routines to save some time to tweak about :) as far as I can tell, now on I ought to be posting more or less regularly again (once in a week, at least). Replies and networking still not 100% ensured, but it's a start, innit :)

In other news, last Friday I've taken a phone interview for a nice marketing position at Abcam ([link]) - keeping fingers crossed :)

I'm alive.

Sort of.

In the first days of June I barely survived a massive laptop crash (with minor data loss), and the nearly fatal escalation of temper fits that followed.
A couple of week later I paid a rather encouraging visit to the Guardian Graduate Fair in London. Managed to take a couple interviews, and came back with a huge stack of leaflets and a lot less doubts.

Meanwhile, I've managed to land a decent summer job as a forklift operator... interestingly enough, it still pays lots better than the average italian senior postdoc. No comment.

So, at the moment I'm only up to working shifts and doing overtime in order to save a starting budget to move away with. Needless to say, I haven't got anything to upload, nor much time to spend here on dA, so as usual - thank you's plenty, and apologies on all the missing replies I won't be able to catch up with :(

Have fun & take care :)

The art of falling behind

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 15, 2008, 3:23 PM
Haven't been around here for way too long now, but for some reason. With the the PhD deadline closing in, the second half of March turned out as horribly hectic as predictable, so by the time I finally got to defend my dissertation I was basically hammered down into a shivering, teeth-on-edge caffeine fiend.
Despite that, it all went fine even beyond my expectations - I made it to Rome without accidents, got an "excellent" mark and words of praise from the examining committee - a badly needed ego boost, there :) so now I'm officially entitled to attach a nice ", PhD" after my name on welfare application forms :D

Then *dolma33 and I had planned to take a few vacation days in Rome, but overdue stress and a real bad cold kicked in together right the day after the examination, keeping me confined to the hotel room most of the time... once back home, it turned out I'd got a normal flu that was on the verge of degenerating into some form of pneumonia, and it took one more week on an arm-long list of medications to put me back together again.

Now I'm back in Parma, enjoying the relieving of tension that comes from not being rushed on deadlines for the first time in nearly four years... though I doubt I'll be able to upload much serious stuff these days however (maybe some pics from the Rome trip). Basically I'm spending most of my time now browsing scientific vacancies, laying down CVs, and trying to get myself a part-time job of sorts to keep my balance alive while completing a couple (unpaid) projects here at uni.

Besides, logging on dA after three weeks or so to find some 1400 overdue deviations to flip through as well as 200+ unreplied messages sorta knocked me down. I'm working on it but it'll have to be shortlisted to some extent anyway - my apologies in advance for all late or missing replies.

That's all for now, I guess. Have fun & take care.

PS Berlusconi's been elected italian prime minister again. If you wish to send nailbombs, voodoo dolls and radioactive waste over here, please feel free, mkay?

Devious Journal Entry

Not being up to much these days... refurbishment in progess at my workplace is keeping me offline most of the time, and aside from that I'm rather busy with giving my PhD dissertation a final rehash, so I really can't afford to be round here all day (and I'm running short of spare time for rendering :().
I'll be defending it on April Fool's day :D, so while the deadline isn't that tight I'd better not take it too easy, cause glitches lie in wait all the time... in the next weeks I'll be uploading some random stuff now and then, and do my best to reply comments and stuff. Meanwhile, over and out. Have fun & take care.

First DD!!!

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 25, 2008, 7:34 AM
... I survived it! It's been a real flood and at times I had to strive hard not to be swept away... however, I'm slowly making my way through the 500+ messages the tide left behind. As promised in the deviation edit, I'm not replying to each and every visitor, but looking at each and every visitor's gallery instead - so as soon as I'm done, I'll post a journal feature with all the random beauty I've caught in the process, which seems a rather fair deal ;)
Meanwhile, again, thanks to everybody I may have forgotten (with a special mention to *AmorinaAshton for suggesting my piece as a DD :blowkiss:).

Be right back soon.
